On what simple platforms can a small business track customer loyalty and get instant feedback?
Customer loyalty is based on previous positive experiences, the level of online customer satisfaction and of course, what the brand offers. It can be done through customer feedback forms or by reaching out to customers directly. The business can also get customer feedback through emails. If your customers are actively communicating with you through e-mail, the information you gain there can be valuable. The feedback form can be attached in the company website as well. The responses from the customers can also be collected using phone calls through a customer service executive. You can also depend on online social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google reviews etc. for gathering feedback. Providing a proactive live chat support can address many issues instantly. The feedback can also be collected using online loyalty surveys like Customer Satisfaction (CSAT), Net Promoter Score (NPS), Customer Effort Score (CES) Smiley Online Survey or through Survey Monkey, Google forms etc.
Why is lead generation an inevitable part of small businesses?
Be it a small start-up business or a big established business, lead generation is actually what gives meaning to a business. An increase in conversion rates will help a business gain higher revenue in the process. You can have leads generated and sent to you using available technology.
Lead generation allows you to target your desired customers at different demographic locations and collect important information about prospects, their needs, and their preferences. That can help you tailor your product or service to meet their wants, needs and/or interests. Most small businesses thrive on word of mouth publicity so make sure to keep your existing customers happy in all situations.
How do you handle customer complaints?
Once you have developed a policy, you can create a procedure for handling complaints. A procedure will ensure complaints are dealt with the same manner, every time. The procedure should be easy to understand and followed by all your staff. An easy and effective method of complaint resolution is by following the H.E.A.R.T model.
Your procedure can include the following steps.
• H – Hear: Listen without interrupting - they need to be heard.
• E – Empathize: Be sensitive and show the customer you've understood. It's important to treat them with respect.
• A- Apologize: After you've understood what went wrong, its time to give an apology. It shows that you are concerned. And customer satisfaction is higher when the apology is sincere and genuine and sounds like it.
• R- Resolve: Take ownership to fix what went wrong, provide atonement.
• T – Thank: Finally, make the customer know that their feedback was valuable and provided room for improvement by thanking them. This step goes a long way in keeping them happy and brings back loyalty.
Go through the complaint in detail so you can understand exactly what the problem is. Keep records of all complaints in one central place or register. This will help you identify any trends or issues. Encourage your customers to provide feedback and complaints so that they let you know when there is a problem and gives you the opportunity to resolve it. Most small businesses thrive on word of mouth publicity so make sure to keep your customers delighted in all situations.
Reopening business is somewhat easier than opening a new business. Why do you say so? What should be the laundry list in reopening a business?
It is easier than beginning a new business because almost all the resources are available with the entrepreneur. The business plan, employees, vendors, infrastructure etc. already exist but the employer needs to research and find ways to pitch into the market and return to the new normal. When restarting a business, revisit the plan with the intention of making each and every forecast or projection more realistic. There may be factors you did not take into consideration that has now become a challenge. Determine the items, sizes and dates of each order that you’ll need as you restart. Contact your vendors to confirm that they’ll be able to meet your current and future orders. Proactively seek feedback from employees and give them a voice. In addition, know the performance of each employee and what could be done to get them to deliver their best. Redesign work so that it can be completed more effectively. Train employees to manage hybrid virtual / physical teams and extend technology support. Limit physical contact and enable more flexible use of space. Be sure to utilize technology like QR codes and Google Pay to eliminate the need to touch any surfaces. Also, wherever needed online reservation methods can be adopted to avoid large crowds of people waiting in line. In terms of cost, try to negotiate and look at the things that are fixed, like rent and loan payments, and even the small stuff like monthly computer charges. Business owners must not only update their customers on hours and product/service reopening, but also explain the new health and safety protocols that are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Customers need to be confident that the business has created a protected environment, to which they can safely return. Interact with your existing customers on a regular basis, and advertise your products and services on the various social media platforms. The marketing and sales team should have a defined goal in the area of lead and revenue generation. And results should be evaluated monthly, quarterly or annually.

Starting online business may help to improve the business to a large extend. The following steps need to be followed to start a website. I am a qualified physiotherapist and I am looking for online job opportunities since I have very good communication skills and I am very keen to explore different job opportunities. During this lockdown I am finding it tough to get jobs online. Can you guide on the kind of jobs I can get online as a freelancer as I am open to new and different job openings and not just health care.
Questioned by
Radhika, Jammu and Kashmir
A physiotherapist job carries a very important responsibility to rehabilitate the patient back to normal without medicines and using exercise, manual therapy, rehabilitation techniques and physical activity hence the option for freelancing physiotherapy is a good one. Since you have mentioned you possess good communication skills, you can try creating your own YouTube / Instagram channel and create your own content which offers critical solutions on health and related care, which caters to all ages and groups. You can do some videos related to physiotherapy in your local language and upload it on YouTube as videos in regional languages are very limited. Also with some experience in this field, and with additional certification programs you can enhance your opportunities of conducting online coaching classes, training sessions, etc. Online health care providers like Curefit or Portea Healthcare can be contacted in this regard, as they have online fitness classes and sessions which are very much in demand. You may also consider advanced areas of study as per your interest, which include advanced physiotherapy in areas such as sports and exercise, rehabilitation, neuro - rehabilitation, paediatric and neuro- musculoskeletal physiotherapy, animal physiotherapy all of which opens to newer job opportunities.
We are into event management business and due to Covid-19 we can't expect any business this year. Please guide us if we should switch to another industry or should we wait till post Covid, to know the future growth of event management industry?
Questioned by
SHASHANK KUMAR, Delhi
If the business is resilient to wait out this pandemic in terms of cash in the bank, I would suggest the same. I assume with respect to event management, the business has to adapt its offering to align to a new era of events (online events, smaller gatherings, private wedding events). If you are able to redefine your process and standard operating procedures, there could be opportunity to revive the business and slowly pick up on the demand.

There is a huge market for non plastic use, and that is growing at 10% year on year based on research reports. Getting directly in partnerships with suppliers who can supply your product across multiple geographies is key.
